Hi there! Today I’m joining Simon Says Stamp for their Born to Sparkle release blog hop and I have a couple of projects to share featuring the Organic Fruits Stamp, Die & Stencil Set.
I am so excited for these new Organic Fruits products because my daughter, Bailey, designed them. I couldn’t be more proud her for doing such a fantastic job!
This first card uses the Organic Fruits stencil to blend the orange color and then I stamped the outline shape in black. The sentiment is also from the Organic Fruits stamp set.
For this next card I used the Organic Fruits stencil to create more colorful shapes around the border of the panel using Pinkfresh Studio inks.
I’m such a stickler for a good sentiment stamp and these have a beautiful, classic font mixture with practical sentiments that you can use all year round.
Here is a video to show how I created these cards.
GIVEAWAY!
Simon Says Stamp is giving away a $25 coupon to every stop on the hop. Leave me a comment for your chance to win! Winners will be posted on the Simon Says Stamp blog on Wednesday, the 5th of May.

April 30, 2021 at 7:32 amDear Laura — and Bailey! —
Your cards (your stamps and stencils, Bailey) are soft and pretty and soothing. I love how the stencil does not quite line up with the stamped images – très cool! It might have been a good choice to include a stamp of “You’re a peach!” or something like that to play on peach/pear. I like the simple and versatile images that can be used (as card #2 shows) for making general shapes that could be repeated for a modern twist on a geo design. Well done, both of you!

April 30, 2021 at 9:52 amBeautiful cards. The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, if you get my drift. Great job Bailey and proud Momma! Never had a bat in my living room but once long ago a squirrel and a bird at another time. They both came down the chimney…..we fixed that entry! Lol!

April 30, 2021 at 10:42 amI’m a fan of Cutie’s, too and loved your first card. I also love painting pears, so this stencil/stamp set is intriguing. When we lived in the mtns (N Calif) we had lots of bats (some made their home on our front porch). They eat lots of mosquitoes, which is great, but I did not appreciate the few times they entered the house. It only takes a small tear in a screen or someone leaving a door open for them to enter. We closed every door to isolate them and used a tennis racquet to guide them outside.

April 30, 2021 at 10:54 amSuch pretty cards. Love the colors. Congratulations Bailey!…….do you have a fireplace? does the outside chimney have a wire/mesh cover on it? There were some people in CA who got invaded by little birds and that is how they got in. Yikes!!

April 30, 2021 at 11:12 amCute cards — I like the abstractness of the Best Wishes card; and congratulations to Bailey for surviving such a demanding boss! I asked my husband, bats get in through holes (he’s a genius!), do you have a chimney? an attic? something needs a screen or a patch. 🙂 Good luck.

April 30, 2021 at 2:00 pmHey there, again –
I just finished watching the video! OMG!! One time we came home from a vacation (I was in HS) and there was a small spot on the vertical part of our sofa’s upholtery. Not thinking in my wildest 15-or-16-yr-old dreams that it was a bat, I walked over the touched it to see “Hmmmm. What’s this?” and it took off flying. I SCREAMED bloody murder. We’d been driving all day and it was late – like 11 p.m. (You’re so funny calling 9 p.m. “late at night,” BTW). This bad flew all over the !$$^% house and my brother’s and my bedrooms were on the third floor (previous owner had converted attic into two nice rooms). The bat ended up up there. We all donned hats as fast as possible. The key is to keep your hair away from the bat’s claws. We had to bring him down with a broom and then had him in a towel that we carried outside. We released him/ her there.
Laura, lemme tell ya a fast story… We moved into our house not far from Lancaster, PA in 2008. About 2 hrs later, we started noticing that at night, we’d hear the sound of something (insert creepy music: dum, dum, DUM!!!!) climbing up/down the vaulted ceiling of the master bedroom. My husband’s answer: It’s night birds. NIGHT BIRDS??? Are you freakin’ kidding me? No, it was a mama coon. She had had her babies in the space between the drywall and the siding in the alcove where my dresser is in the master bedroom. AAAAAGGH! I was ripped up about this. I am SUCH a huge animal lover but it was a bad scene…. Those baby coons (which, by the way, look a lot like puppies except for their enormous claws!) were stuck in the wall and every night tkkk, tkkk, tkkk, tkkk, tkkk… we’d hear that mama coon come in and tippy toe up and over that vault in the ceiling that passed right over the bed! The babies were crying for her and we could tell the minute she fed them b/c they stopped their brutzing (crying, in PA Dutch).
The upsetting part was that we had to get a trapper to put a trap on the roof. These were the choices. A) Do nothing and the coons are likely to use their claws to rip through the drywall and enter the house, creating a lot of damage and possible harm to us/ our cats. Would not have been able to sleep knowing that we could be set upon by three coons (one, the mom, ended up to be 19lbs!!). B) Put the trap on the roof. Jason, the trapper, said “We’ll find out if she’s a good mama. If she is, she’ll smell that I’ve been around her point of entry (soffit) and she’ll enter anyway, and then we got ‘er! (His glee bothered me, but that’s on him.) OR She’ll smell that I’ve been around the soffit and she’ll take off, leaving her babies to starve.” Well, I felt even worse the next morning when I went out in the a.m., put up the garage door and there she was, hanging on the roof. She was a good mama and still got killed. I learned more about raccoons than I ever dreamed (like that 15% of all US coon are incapable of truly living on their own – they depend on a structure such as an attic or an abandoned bldg to make a nest and that they are the #1 rabies carrier in my state).
Anyway, I hope your attic does not have bats in it. Above all, I hope, as the saying goes, that you don’t have bats in your belfry! Hahahaha.

You don’t want the bat to get in

April 30, 2021 at 2:44 pmKudos to Bailey — I love those organic fruits! Enjoy your days of thinking you’re her “boss” — from what I’m seeing those days may be numbered. As for the bat, I think I would be referring to that house as my “former” home.

April 30, 2021 at 2:50 pmBeautiful, clean, refreshing cards Laura. Congrats to Bailey on a job well done. I have like all of the sets she has designed so far and can’t act to see what she does next. Your bat story was scary Laura. I am not sure how I would have handled it. Isn’t it funny how these things happen when hubby is not there lol. I have a few stories myself…none with a bat though. ❤️

April 30, 2021 at 3:13 pmLaura, I love your cards and Bailey, I love your design. Congratulations! I ordered the stamps, dies and stencil. today. Definitely check for holes in your attic, eaves, etc. We have had bats hanging around our front door and they make a mess. My husband moved them to other locations (10 mi. away) and they came back. He most recently is trying spraying dog and cat repellent during the day when they are gone. So far, it seems to be working. I don’t want to harm them because they are so beneficial.

April 30, 2021 at 6:03 pmAs you were telling your story, I thought “too bad your family is into hockey and not lacrosse!” Or maybe tennis?! Both useful in removing a bat. Not that I’d have the guts to get close enough to the bat to use either of those items. But still a good thought 😉

April 30, 2021 at 6:26 pmCongrats to Bailey, she has potential for sure… keep it up. Your blending is killer for sure. I also had a bat in my house twice… badminton racquet works wonders and I was not as kind as you (killed it, both times) Come to find out the church about a 1/2 mile from my house had thousands of them in the bell tower. Thank goodness I only had two… Love all the colors your used and I think I am liking that Pinkfresh ink too. Nice job and I’m glad your family will all be back together soon…. Happy Days!

April 30, 2021 at 8:05 pmLove.Love.Love these fruit shapes!! I think my fave is the one with six all lined up. What a talented family, all around. As for the bats…oh, I got bat stories. When I was a kid we lived in a lovely house. Really, a nice place. Bats have good taste. A bunch of them lived in the attic. They used to get downstairs at night and swoop into my room. Somehow always My room. In the middle of the night. I’d open one eye and Scream, and rush out of the room and wake poor old Dad up. He’d have to chase the bat out the window (not easy because they were casement windows). Hate to tell ya, try as he might he could never get rid of them permanently. Fast forward, I marry a guy whose brother is a wildlife biologist who specializes in: Bats. You’d think they were royalty. Cannot say one bad word about them out loud, but, I sure do think bad thinks about them to myself. And they leave their droppings everywhere. And, well, there’s zoonosis. Look it up. Just sayin. We once had a flying squirrel in the house, too. They smell like skunks. And then there was the snake in the basement…. You wonder how Gerald Durrell’s mother ever put up with him. Anywho, I really do love the fruits. They appeal to me more than cutesy animals, and a nice change from flowers and butterflies, of which I have loads. I think they’ll be very versatile for all sorts of occasions.

April 30, 2021 at 8:10 pmBailey does it again… a geo twist to everyday beauty! Wait what,… no rainbow? Awesome fun design! And right now I have birds building their home-da-minium on my trucks engine… every day I remove the hard work and theyyyyy’re baaaaaack. I found birds hate Peppermint, it worked. Two bottles of peppermint oil poured on the engine and they are gone. But…. my truck smells like a candy store from 20 feet away, but no birds. (((Hugs))) again. Bravo Bailey! Glad the rough times might be ending too! You are a beautiful family!

May 2, 2021 at 10:07 amThe dynamic duo strikes again- mama/daughter teams are the best and you two rocked it. Way to go, Bailey…and Mama Bassen, way to showcase. These simple shapes are so versatile- from fruity goodness to geo fun. The sentiment style and messages are perfect! (Unexpected wildlife in the house can be nerve-shattering; our story involved a squirrel thru the chimney. Best wishes on finding the point of ingress so future laptop/movie nights are as relaxing as they’re supposed to be. :-))

Oh boy, bats! I remeber staying in a cabin when I was about 9 or 10 & a bat got in through the wood burning stove. My sister & I were alone when we spotted it & ran into the bathroom to get away from it. Unfortunately the light switch was on the outside of the door & there weren’t any windows in there, so we sat in the dark bathroom until someone came to rescue us! 😆
